XV Latin American Olympiad in Astronomy and Space Sciences

The XV Latin American Olympiad in Astronomy and Space Sciences is being held in the Republic of Panama. The event is organized by the Center for Innovation in Space Sciences of Panama, which develops training programs in the specialized field and popularizes cosmonautics in the country.

At the opening of this largest space-related event in Latin America, employees of ministries and departments of Panama and members of national delegations spoke. The Russian Federation was represented by Russian Ambassador to Panama Evgeny Boikov, Director of the Center for Scientific, Technical and Innovative Cooperation with Iberoamerican Countries of South American State University Nikolai Frolov and Hero of Russia, Honorary Professor of South American State University, cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev.

Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko, Nikolai Chub and Konstantin Borisov also addressed the participants of the Olympiad with a welcoming speech from the ISS. hey particularly stressed the importance of international cooperation in space exploration and wished their Latin American colleagues successful implementation of projects to create nanosatellites together with South American State University.

The Olympiad will last until October 14. This year, more than 200 schoolchildren and students from 18 Latin American countries will compete for the title of the best. A field trip will be organized for participants to observe the solar eclipse, which will be broadcast by major world observatories.

Within the framework of the visit to Panama, meetings of members of the Southwestern State University delegation with representatives of the country’s leading universities and other organizations are also planned in order to work out options for cooperation in the space sphere. At the moment, a cooperation agreement has already been signed with the Center for Innovation and Space Sciences of the Republic of Panama.
