Progress M-22M to Sink in the Pacific Ocean

Progress M-22M cargo vehicle undocked from the ISS on April 7 and performing controlled flight will be deorbited on Friday and sank in the Pacific Ocean, – MCC representative reports.

“The thrusters will be ignited for deorbiting at 18.54 Moscow time, April 18. The fragments of cargo vehicle well be sank in the non-navigational region of Pacific Ocean at 19.46 Moscow time, – the spokesman stated.

Since April 7 the vehicle has been performing controlled flight during which Radar-progress experiment provided by Russian Academy of Sciences Institute for Solar-terrestrial Physics and RSC Energia was accomplished on its board.

During the experiment it is planned to measure ionosphere’s density level, temperature and ion composition caused by vehicle thrusters operation depending on solar radiation direction. In the course of radar-progress experiment the following equipment will be used: Progress M-17M cargo vehicle propulsion system, VHF range radioequipment and radio monitoring ground-based facilities.
